Why maintenance matters
An alarm works in the background and we only think about it when it goes off. But its components wear out: batteries run down, detectors gather dust, contacts shift and connections can fail. Regular alarm system maintenance prevents faults and false alarms.
What to check after summer
- Batteries: in the control panel and wireless detectors. Heat can shorten their lifespan.
- Detectors: clean, correctly aligned and free from new obstacles such as furniture or plants.
- Door and window contacts: closing and detecting properly.
- Sirens: sounding correctly, with batteries in good condition.
- Communications: the connection to the monitoring centre and the app working, including the backup channel.
- Users and contacts: remove codes for people who should no longer have access and update emergency numbers.
Signs your alarm needs attention
Frequent false alarms, low-battery warnings, detectors missing from the app or a slow-responding system are all signs that something is wrong. Communication failure alerts should never be ignored either.
Service or upgrade?
If your alarm is many years old, it may not be compatible with current communication networks or offer features that are now standard, such as smartphone control or image verification. In those cases, upgrading is usually better value than repeated repairs.
How often to service your alarm
We recommend a professional service at least once a year, plus your own quick checks every few months. For systems connected to a monitoring centre, maintenance by an authorised company is also a legal requirement in Spain.
